Mafuva is currently playing for South Africa’s Vaal University of Technology volleyball club, while studying for a BTech Degree in Business Administration.
“I have seen myself growing as a sporting personality and in education through volleyball. I am very much aware that many youths despise the sport, yet it has many opportunities on and off the field,” said Mafuva.
“I am qualified in Sport Management and Administration just because I pursued volleyball. I will be further graduating in a Business Degree next year and would challenge my brothers out there to fully participate in volleyball as there is future in it. I can assure you that every university world-wide has a scholarship for volleyball players.”
He urged young volleyball players, including the under-privileged, to ride on their talents in the sport to achieve their dreams.
Mafuva, who rose from the ranks of Churchill Boys High School to represent Harare province at the inaugural Zimbabwe Youth Games in 2003, has also played in Botswana. He has 25 caps for senior national volleyball squad and has won various medals with different clubs and provincial clubs which he has represented since turning professional.
In 2011, he was part of the Zimbabwean national team at the All Africa Games qualifiers, where they were crowned bronze medallists in South Africa.
