Zanu youths registered to vote

Aspiring Zanu (PF) Chimanimani East Member of Parliament, Joshua Sacco, is helping scores of youths with transport to the Registrar General’s offices for national identity cards and voter registration.

Sacco’s haulage trucks have been used to ferry villagers to the RG’s offices once they have been vetted by headmen and Zanu (PF) ward officials.

“Those villagers who are suspected to be MDC supporters are screened. In some cases the youths are forced to go and register,” said a villager in Mhakwe area who preferred not to be named.

Villagers expressed concern over the danger posed by the trucks. “We wonder why the police are allowing such things to happen,” said another villager.

When reached for comment Sacco admitted bussing villagers to the RG’s offices. “I am assisting anyone who needs transport. IDS and voting are basic human rights and this exercise deserves my full support,” said Sacco.

Sacco has been accused of promoting political violence against the MDC-T and financing a group of thugs terrorizing MDC supporters. Sacco was elected deputy secretary for production in the Zanu (PF) youth league in 2009, becoming the first white to hold such a position. He once travelled to Johannesburg, South Africa as part of a Zanu (PF) propaganda team led by Jonathan Moyo, and made headlines at a SADC summit.

Sacco is known to have close ties with suspended Zanu (PF) provincial chairman, Mike Madiro.
