After voting in a referendum to decide on a new constitution last month, Zimbabwe is now focusing on elections to end the four year coalition government between Zanu (PF) and the MDCs.
“The forth coming elections are important as Zapu will take its position like it did in 1980 and 1985 general elections,” said party president, Dumiso Dabengwa in a statement.
He said Zapu was now in full swing as witnessed by hundreds of people who attended a rally at Nketa hall in Bulawayo over the weekend.
“Zimbabweans move around saying they are not seeing Zapu yet they are also part and parcel of the party. People must not fear anymore now that there is a new constitution in the country.
“Zapu supporter must chill out the time of Gukurahudi of the 1980s where innocent civilians amounting to 20 000 were butchered. That time is over and Zapu supporters must wear their party regalia without fear of victimization” read a statement by Dabengwa.
He urged people to desist from fighting for positions in the party saying vacancies were in abundance.
“With the elections around the corner, potential councilors and members of parliament will be presented to the constituencies for approval.
“People must not be power hungry and should desist from fighting for positions in the party as vacancies are in abundance,” he said.
