He won 8 games and drew 3 games to finish with 9,5 points out of 11 games of play. He drew against one of the tournament favourites Sergeant Albert Maketo of Mash Central Province who came a close second with 9 points. Constable Chayamiti of Support Unit came third with 8,5 points and also won a bronze medal to have 2 players from the same Province scooping medals.Maketo lost to Chayamiti and drew against Adonis.
Maketo had to fight very hard against Janyure of PPU and won his game.He played against Adonis,Chayamiti and Maketo who were the top 3 and lost to them.Seventeen provinces were represented and each had 3 players to make a total of 51 participants.
In the ladies category madam Gandiwa Harare Province came first with 10 points out of 11 games of play. Madam Gumiremhete of Bulawayo came second with 9 points while madam Magaramombe Support Unit came third with 8,5 points.
Meanwhile in the teams tourney in the men's category Traffic came first followed by Mash Central and CID respectively. This was a blitz tourney of 5 minutes per player.Seventeen teams took part in the men's category.
In the women's section Harare Province came first followed by Mat North Bulawayo and Support Unit respectively. Bulawayo and Support were tied on the same position and they had to be separated by board points. In the women's section there were 13 teams. The tournament was run by Elton Mhangarai of Zimbabwe Chess Fedaration..
He was assisted by Tribulation Motsi.The tourney was used to select a team that will represent Zimbabwe in Namibia for the SARPCO games sometime in August.Support Unit scooped most gold medals to come out first followed by Depot Province .The selected athletes were told not to be complacent when preparing for the SARPCO games.
