All set for national scholars chess champs

All is set for the NASH National scholars chess championships to be hosted at Gloag High School near Shangani.The tourney will run from the 30th of May -June 2.Ten provinces are expected to take part.Each province should be sending 24 players ,3 per age group.The age groups to take part are under14,16,18 and 20 both boys and girls.In the under

14 boys category there will be a fierce battle between Bhekile Ndlovu of Bulawayo and Takunda Mudzingwa of St.Georges in Harare province.In the under

16 boys category Munashe Dembaremba of Goromonzi High School will be the hot favourite to scoop the award,but pressure will be from Victor Muchemwa of Gifford in Bulawayo as well as Trevor Macheka of Mabvuku High School,Harare.In the under 18 boys category Tanaka Marwizi of St.Ignatius,Van Madanhi of Goromonzi High School and Kudzaishe Manyanya of the same school will be vying for the honours in this category.There may be surprises from Harare guys as well as Bulawayo who have dark horses in this category.Tapiwa Gora will have to carry the day for Harare provimce in the under 20 boys category in the absence of Fide Master Tatenda Matemavi who will writing his final exams this June.

Meanwhile Charity Chiweshe will be hogging the limelight in the under

16 girls catergory.Nomalungelo Mathe will be fighting for honours with WCM Paidaishe Zengeni of Harare.Chido Tonhodzai will be the favourite to win in the under 20 girls catergory.Come Friday all the provinces will be battling it out on the chess board.There will be fire on the board.Harare will be out to win the title for the fourth time under the guidance of Victor Chimbamu who is their coach.
