A US man has lodged a complaint with police after losing his life savings on a fairground stall and winning only a giant banana with dreadlocks.
Henry Gribbohm, 30, of Epson, New Hampshire, says he lost over $2,600 (£1,670) on the carnival game which he now believes was rigged.
He told WBZ-TV he was trying to win an Xbox Kinect for his kids on the $5 a go ball throwing game called Tubs of Fun.
He lost $300 then went home to fetch another $2,300 – all the money he had – to try to win it back.
“They explained to me I was going to get all my money back,” he said, “I was going to get an Xbox Kinect… They lied to me.”
He returned to the carnival, run by Fiesta Shows, the next day to complain, and the game operator gave him $600 and a large stuffed banana with a hat and dreadlocks.
The operator said that was “all they could do” for him, Gribbohm told the New Hampshire Union Leader.
Gribbohm contacted local police, and officers are now investigating to see if any fraud occurred.
MPs hurt in parliament brawl
A number of MPs were injured after a mass fight broke out in Venezuela’s parliament.
Both sides accused each other of starting the brawl, which took place behind closed doors in the National Assembly, reports The Mirror.
The opposition claimed seven of its parliamentarians were attacked during the angry exchange over the nation’s recent elections.
The Government side blamed their “fascist” rivals for starting the violence over their refusal to recognise President Nicolas Maduro’s victory.
A measure had been passed denying opposition members the right to speak in the chamber until they recognized Maduro as president.
Maduro, who succeeded socialist leader Hugo Chavez, narrowly defeated opposition candidate Henrique Capriles.
But Capriles, 40, has refused to recognise his victory, alleging thousands of irregularities were committed and the vote “stolen.
“Reporter catches near miss on camera
A sports reporter’s amazing self-portrait shows shows her getting almost hit in the head by a baseball.
Kelly Nash, 28, who works for Fox Sports, took what she says was the “most dangerous selfie ever” while on assignment at Boston’s Fenway Park baseball stadium.
It was only after she looked back at her photo later that she noticed her near miss.
She said: “My whole family is from Massachusetts and I wanted to send them a picture of me with Fenway Park in the background.
“Right after I took a few photos of myself, I went to attach one to a text message to my parents.
“The last photo I took had the baseball in it, so close to my head! I thought, “you have got to be kidding me”.
“I did not see, feel, or hear the ball… My producer had told me a few other times “Heads up!” when a ball was heading my way, while I was snapping photos around the ballpark, but he did not see that ball either.
“It’s just a surreal, a bit magical, and a little overwhelming moment in my life in sports.”
