The dredger “Macuti” is a trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) with a capacity to hold 2,500 cubic metres of silt. It will be operated by the Danish consortium JGH/RN (Johs. Gram-Hanssen and Rohde Nielsen) on behalf of the state owned Mozambican Ports and Rail Company (CFM) and the National Dredging Company (EMODRAGA).
The dredging will take place under a contract signed in January 2011 as part of a project funded by the Mozambican government and the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA).
A team of Mozambican technicians has already received training in the Netherlands in operating and maintaining the vessel.
The ship was built at the Western Baltija shipyard in Klaipeda, Lithuania and on 29 April it was delivered to Johs. Gram-Hanssen.
Macuti is already on the move and is currently on its way to a port in Denmark.
