MDC-T sittings MPs fail to get nomination

A number of sitting MDC-T Members of Parliament in Harare failed the party’s confirmation process today and will have to go through the primary election process.

The list of those who were not confirmed includes Professor Heneri Dzinotyiwei (Budiriro), Elias Jembere (Epworth), Pearson Mungofa (Highfield East), Gift Dzirutwe (Glen Norah), Willias Madzimurume (Kambuzuma) and Sunningdale’s Margaret Matienga.

These MPs are now set to battle it out with other candidates in primary elections on dates yet to be announced.

In a statement posted on Facebook, MDC Harare province spokesman Obert Gutu said Matienga managed to garner 24 out of 204 votes cast in her Sunningdale constituency.

According to the party’s regulations, a sitting MP must garner at least 50 percent and one vote to get confirmation or else the constituency would have to go for a primary election.

Among those whose candidature was confirmed in Harare include Paul Madzore of Glen View, Fanuel Munengami of Glen Norah North, Paurina Mpariwa-Gwanyanya of Mufakose and Jessie Majome of Harare West.

Youth Assembly Chairman, Solomon Madzore, was elected also elected as the candidate for Dzivarasekwa in the next elections.
