“The council agreed to construct three primary schools as there are currently only two. Areas such as Ngungunyani, Tabudirira, Current Shops and Budiriro 4 do not have primary schools, a situation that has forced parents to enrol their children with private colleges,” Ward 43 Councillor, Panganayi Charumbira, told The Zimbabwean.
He added that the major concern was the distance grade zero to three children were forced to walk to school.
“Pupils from Budiriro 4 go to a school in Budiriro 2 and there is a river between the two areas. During the rainy season children have to go the long way round,” he said.
The primary schools will be located in Budiriro 3, 4 and 5.
Charumbira said bureaucracy and lack of commitment by some council officials was scuttling the construction of a school owned by Tabudirira Housing Co-operative.
“The urban Planning should look into the delays and the council should take over construction of the school,” added Charumbira.
