The VP made the pledge during her address to a congregation of the Association of Apostolic Churches in Zimbabwe in the city last week.
The gathering was attended by top Zanu (PF) officials including Sylvester Nguni, State Minister in VP Mujuru’s office, Midlands Governor and Resident Minister and Zanu (PF) Midlands Chairman Jaison Machaya, as well as party spokesperson Rugare Gumbo.
“Pastors form an integral part of President Robert Mugabe’s rule and therefore should benefit from all the policies that are driven by him in Government,” said Mujuru. “So I am saying, all the pastors from the churches in the Association of Apostolic Churches in Zimbabwe should write to me and get farms and mines.
“We want all the pastors to be empowered so that they show the young ones fruits of independence from colonial rule. We toiled during the war and so pastors should benefit. After all we are a state that fears God,” said Mujuru.
“In my office I should not spend time drinking tea. So you must give me your letters so that I work on them. If you do not, I will use the time to drink the tea. I want all of you to have the farms even though that phase has been closed. You should also have the mines,” she added.
Lately Zanu (PF) has been courting religious groups in its drive for support ahead of the forthcoming elections. In the past President Mugabe and top party officials have been frequenting churches where they solicit for support.
