Multiple farm owners exposed

Farm owners who corruptly acquired vast tracts of land during the controversial land reform exercise in 2000 will soon be exposed by an electronic database set up by the government.

Several top Zanu (PF) officials are understood to have grabbed numerous farms from productive white commercial farmers at the height of the exercise.

The Information and Communication Technology ministry headed by Nelson Chamisa came up with the electronic system dubbed Zim-Connect, which seeks to enhance public administration systems in the Government.

Misheck Sibanda, the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, told delegates while delivering a public lecture at Midlands State University recently that the establishment of the system began on April 1 and is still being worked on.

All the government ministries have been ordered to put forward their information books for uploading.

“The system will detect double land allocation, dual contract offers or leases. It will also facilitate the collection of farm rental or levies,” said Sibanda.

The initiative has also seen the Ministry of Economic Planning and Investment Promotion now offering Online Investment Project Application, while the State Procurement board has developed e-Procurement and Contracts Management.
