Musicians in clean-up campaign

Urban grooves artists partnered with various organisations in a series of clean-up campaigns where they also released a single to raise public awareness of the need to keep the city litter-free.

Spearheaded by Kwekwe Arts and Media Trust, the clean-up involved 30 artists and supported by corporates and organisations such as Delta Beverages, Steelmakers, the Environmental Management Agency and Kwekwe City Council.

It was launched in the central business district and targeted high density suburbs such as Mbizo and Amaveni. Another one will take place on June 8 before concluding with a massive “bin it” campaign on June 28.

Twelve urban groovers collaborated on the single entitled“My Kwekwe, My Pride. Bin It” which was recorded by Redemption Studios in conjunction with Sebakwe Community Radio initiative.

Producer Dennis Chichola, aka Spicy Dee, said the track encourages residents to be environmentally conscious.

KWAMET secretary general Kudakwashe Zvarayi said the campaign was born out of the realization that the city was covered with litter. They decided to partner with musicians as they play an influential role in society.
