Party clean up: Matuke faces the chop

A major clean up looms within the Zanu (PF)
provincial leadership here as the incumbent Chairman Lovemore Matuke
 faces the chop.

A probe team led by party National Chairman Simon Khaya Moyo will arrive in
Masvingo this week to unite the two warring factions in
the province.

There are two distinct factions within the party, one reportedly led by
Defence Minister Emmerson Mnangagwa and the other by Vice
President Joice Mujuru.

According to highly placed sources within Zanu (PF), Matuke, said to be in the Mnangagwa camp, risks being suspended while Mwenezi East legislator and politburo member, Kudakwashe Bhasikiti, is being tipped to take over the reins.

Sources say Bhasikiti, believed to be a Mujuru loyalist, will be deputised by
Tourism and Hospitality Minister, Walter Mzembi.

Matuke, in charge of the province for almost six years, has riled the party leadership for failing to unite the party in the province.

Khaya Moyo confirmed that he will read the riot act to Zanu (PF) leaders
in the province.

“We are definitely going to restructure the leadership and whoever is
removed from his post should know that it is being done for the
benefit of the party,” said Moyo.

“We are not on a witch hunt.” Moyo’s team which
includes State Security Minister Sydney Sekeramayi and party national
commissar Webster Shamu.

Sources said Masvingo businessman, Edmund Mhere, faces expulsion from the party.
Mhere owns a chains of supermarkets and a fleet of haulage
trucks and he has been accused of instructing police to unleash dogs on party
supporters at a meeting at the Masvingo Polytechnic.

“I know the Chairman is coming but not to score political points,” said Mhere.
