Madzore was arrested last week on allegations of contravening Section 33 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act after he allegedly called President Robert Mugabe a “limping donkey” at a rally in Mbire, Mashonaland Central.

Madzore was summoned by the Zimbabwe Republic Police Law and Order Section last week after which he was transferred to Bindura Police Station.

His lawyer, Charles Kwaramba from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights told The Zimbabwean that Bindura Magistrate, Elisha Singano, had granted Madzore $100 bail but State Prosecutor, Munyaradzi Mataranyika, invoked Section 121 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

The section allows the State a seven day period to launch an appeal against the granting of bail to accused persons.

Madzore, together with 28 other party activists, is currently on bail for the alleged murder of a senior police officer, Petros Mutedza in Glen View in 2011.

However, the MDC-T has since dismissed the charges against Madzore and the other 28 as trumped up.

Madzore and other party activists being accused of murdering Mutedza spent more than a year in jail before being granted bail.
