Stop abusing church: Dube

The mainstream MDC has called on church leaders to stop being used by President Robert Mugabe and Zanu (PF) as they try desperately to cling to power.

“Zanu (PF) has continued its method of politicising the church as a way of trying to grow its support and this has seen it turn some of the previously God-fearing clergymen into Mugabe praise-singers,” said Dube, who is now based in Bulawayo.

“Mugabe and his party have also been the main force behind the mushrooming of many churches with unclear backgrounds that just exist to try and turn people back to Zanu (PF). “Zanu (PF) has shown us with these actions that it is just a satanic formation camouflaged as a political party. How can sound church leaders openly glorify a killer organisation like Zanu (PF) and even equate a dictator to Jesus Christ? We have seen that happen of late and it shows us what kind of party Zanu (PF) is.”

Dube said such efforts were destined for failure, as people could clearly read the writing on the wall and Zanu (PF)’s time was up.

“Using the church as a springboard will definitely fail, just like all the other methods that Mugabe’s party have tried before because the people of Zimbabwe are not foolish. They know what they want and no-one can stop the winds of change now.”

He said the divisions within Mugabe’s party also spoke volumes of a formation heading towards its end.

“The old guard wants to consolidate its hold on power and national resources at the expense of the leadership renewal that young members of that party wants, while the young generation is rooting for a change of guard and this has caused discord within the party,” added the MDC-T youth leader.
