The play has been recommended by a wide audience including the UNAIDS executive deputy director Jan Beagle. It highlights the trials and tribulations endured by the girl child, particularly in the rural areas.
It is an emotional story about a young girl who is sent to live with her sister’s husband by her parents after the sister died from HIV/AIDS, so that he can continue to support them financially.
Swerengoma group leader William Majuru plays the role of the son-in-law. She is raped by her uncle and infected with HIV. Though the perpetrator is arrested by the police, the damage has already been done.
Majuru said the play portrays the challenges vulnerable women go through all in the name of following tradition.
