Anesu Tevera(25), Yemukai Singwere (23), Sanisai Masimo (19), Siria Sete (23), Arnold Svotwa (22), Russel Mutyambizi and 7-month-old Dylan Mwasha were arrested by Sergeant Kahiya and dragged to the police station to be quizzed for mobilizing their peers. They were arrested by Sergeant Kahiya.
The youths, who all called on the principals of the Global Political Agreement to immediately rein in the security sector and order them to respect the democratic rights of all Zimbabweans.
The Trust has been conducting electoral indabas, road shows and sports tournaments aimed at improving the qualitative participation of youths in the electoral process. The efforts of the six are a culmination of this broader civic education exercise.
“This latest act by the law enforcement agents is the clearest sign yet that as we move towards elections, there is high likelihood that youths will be intimidated from participating in the electoral process,” said the Trust in a statement.
