Crocodile exports boom

Binga Crocodile farm has exported 10 tonnes of crocodile meat to European and Namibian markets since the resumption of meat exports this year.

Following years of economic instability, the crocodile farm suspended all meat exports. In a telephone interview with The Zimbabwean, the farm’s managing director, John English, said the farm had exported two large consignments since re-opening. “We have resumed crocodile meat exports to Namibia and Belgium,” he said.

The farm has refurbished its abattoirs and cold rooms. The expansion project is expected to improve export earnings from $550 000 to $2, 5 million a year.
