Moyo spent most of last season on the sidelines and speculation had it that Stars were looking to cut ties with the former Warriors defender, but the PSL runners-up, who will have a new coach next season, have dismissed that as unfounded.
“Obert has reported back for pre-season training with the rest of the players. There is no truth in the reports about him leaving at the end of the month,” said club spokesman, Aubrey Molobi in an interview early this week.
“We finished second in the league and will be playing in the CAF Confederations Cup. We also have to maintain the standards we set for ourselves last season, so we have no intentions to sell any more of our players. We have to keep the depth. We will play more matches next season and that will afford Obert and the other players that saw little action last season, an opportunity to shine.”
Moyo, 27, who has previously played for Hwange and the University of Pretoria, joined Stars on a two-year deal from Caps United, ahead of the 2012/13 season. His contract has an option for renewal. Despite being a rare talent, he played only three league games last season and was not fielded in any of the cup competitions.
The club will have a new coach this season, following the departure of Cavin Johnson to SuperSport United and that, together with gaps created by some players like Thuso Phala, who have left the club, could herald a change of fortunes for the Zimbabwean star.
