He was paired against Van Madanhi who is also the captain of the Goromonzi A team.The two captains drew their game in a must win for Tapiwa to level the scores ,but it was a deadlock resulting in Goromonzi clinching 2,5-1,5.Munashe Winini won on board 2 beating Munashe Dembaremba ,while Kudzaishe Manyanya won his game on board 3 and also Anesu Gwezere winning his game as well on board 4 to carry the day for Goromonzi.In round 2 they played against Rufaro Chess Club of Zengeza and beat them 3-1 with Van being the only casualty in this round.
In round 3 they were paired against Allan Wilson A and they whitewashed them 4 nil.In the last round they were paired against Mabvuku A team and they defeated them 3-1 in a pulsating and mouthwatering game.The games had to be finished in blitz with the game on board one as enterprising as expected but Jeremiah Jekera faltered and lost on time.Thomas Amin was the only Mabvuku boy who won,beating Kudzaishe Manyanya on board 3.Tapiwa Gora was the best player on board one in the A section.
Mabvuku A Junior team won the junior category after winning all their 4 matches.They survived a scare from Goromonzi B team and they won 3-1 in a final before final game before seeing off their B team in the final round of play.In second postion was Tafara High one School followed by Mabvuku B team.Mufakose Juniors were tied on the 4th position together with Goromonzi B team.Brian Shokoni of Mabvuku High was the best player on board one.Meanwhile Goromonzi Girls team and Roosevelt Senior team were the best girls teams of the tournament.The winners received some certificates.
