Grumpy Cat achieved overnight internet fame in 2012 after a picture of her looking rather down in the dumps went viral when it was posted on Reddit.
A YouTube video attracted more than 10m views and an official Facebook and Twitter account followed for the cat, which is really called Tardar Sauce.
And now a film career looks set to follow for the notoriously miserable feline in a project announced by Hollywood production company Broken Road.
“This started off as a picture of a cat, but rare is an image that evokes that much comedy,” explained producer Todd Garner, whose past work includes Adam Sandler’s Jack and Jill.
“You read all of the memes and the comments, and one is funnier than the next. We think we can build a big family comedy around this character.”
