Mighty Warriors captain quits

Mighty Warriors captain Onai Chingao has been omitted from the team to face South Africa's Banyana Banyan in an international friendly match Saturday amid revelations that she has quit football after getting married.

The Mighty Warriors goalkeeper has just married Dynamos striker Russell Madamombe and sources within the Mighty Warriors camp have revealed that she has informed her coaches that she is no longer able to continue her football duties preferring instead to concentrate on her new duties at home.

Chingao was not part of the Mighty Warriors team that departed Harare for South Africa by road Tuesday with Chido Dzingirayi being named as the Zimbabwe number one goalkeeper.

Mighty Warriors coach Rosemary Mugadza could neither deny nor confirm the fact that Chingao has retired saying this was a personal issue which only Chingao herself could comment on.

Although Chingao could not be reached to shed light on this development, those close to the player and Madamombe have also confirmed that the reliable Mufakose Queens goalkeeper has decided to call it quits from football.

Ironically, at the same time she was planning to get married Chingao, along with Marjory Nyaumwe, in April, went for trials at German club Bayern Munich. However, two months down the line the German club are still to release the results of the trials.

Chingao, a vital cog in the Mighty Warriors machine was named the goalkeeper of the tournament at the 2011 COSAFA tournament which Zimbabwe hosted and won.
