He recently led his Johannesburg Spikers team to their first promotion to the topflight Gauteng Volleyball Union league.
“It’s every coach’s dream to play in the top flight league and this promotion is to me a dream come true,” said a jovial Moyo, recently also promoted to lead the Gauteng Province’s Under-18 team.
“I always work hard wherever I am deployed and I always make sure I get positive results. Spikers are good and what makes me happy about them is that they are young players, most of them still at school. Our promotion depicts the high level of discipline we have and speaks volumes of our hard work.”
The team boasts two Zimbabwean players in Dalani Dube and Lameck Mweda, both 13-years-old, who Moyo said were promising to be the future of the game.
“Those boys are very talented and have become regulars in both the school team and the provincial squad, where they play at the Under-18 level. Considering that they will remain part of this team for the coming five years, I can say they are the future of the game.”
“They can be an asset to our national team and their talent needs to be utilized for the country’s benefit. Whoever is in charge of our national team squad should try and have a look at them,” added Moyo, who also is Gauteng Volleyball Union Development Director and Gauteng Schools Volleyball Development Officer.
Moyo has successfully defended the Volleyball SA Inter-provincial Trophy for three consecutive years with his Under-13 boys. All his Under-11 and Under-13 boys and girls were gold medalists at Gauteng Volleyball Tournament against five regions.
City of Johannesburg Region F Sport and Recreation officer, Philemon Mogketsi, was full of praise for the Zimbabwean. “Moyo is doing wonders for us. He has shown that he is a rare breed, especially in teaching and volleyball,” said Mogketsi.
