
Deputy Chairperson, Joyce Kazembe said anyone interested could apply as long as they were genuine organisations. “ZEC has already received several applications from both local and regional bodies.
We are not going to limit the number of applicants. Very soon, we will publish our code of conduct,” she said.
She also revealed that the African Union, several faith-based NGOs and one Nigerian independent election organisation had already applied. But the Southern African Development Community was yet to approach the commission with an application.
One of the key recommendations made at last week’s summit was that the regional body is supposed to deploy a team of observers immediately.
The two MDCs have called for the early deployment of observers “as a pre- condition to free and fair elections.”
