The first leg of the visit took Tsvangirai to parts of Matabeleland Province where
MDC-T spokesperson Douglas Mwonzora, said he would consult with stakeholders to find solutions to pressing issues.
“Tsvangirai is not touring the country for decoration purposes but to identify and address people’s concerns. He is the only distinguished fatherly figure in Zimbabwe whose caring leadership cuts across race, tribe and clan,” said Mwonzora.
He added that Tsvangirai’s visit was not a political gimmick to garner support ahead of elections, but out of his passion and love for the people.
The trip, which started last Thursday, took Tsvangirai to Binga where he held a meeting with the local business community before visiting Mucheso government hospital and Bulawayo Kraal.
On Friday he met with traditional leadership at Inkosikazi Village and attended a field day at the area before a party rally.
Tsvangirai’s tour will take him to Tsholotso Business Centre, a meeting with leaders at Sipepa Business Centre and a visit to the University of Lupane.
He will meet with traditional leadership and members of the business community, before travelling to Nkayi for a meeting with traditional leaders at Zimunya Business Centre. The trip schedule will finish with a soccer match at Matichaneni Primary School before addressing a rally at the centre.
Political analyst, Pedzisai Ruhanya, said Zimbabwe was in an election season and Tsvangirai was mobilising support for his candidates in the constituency and for himself as a presidential candidate.
“Matabeleland is a critical constituency and will determine which party wins the coming election,” said Ruhanya.
He said Matabeleland has always voted against Zanu (PF) and Tsvangirai needed to play his political cards wisely.
