Stop treating people like chickens: Dube

The South African provincial chairperson of the MDC Ncube has challenged Zanu (PF) to stop promoting its ‘vote buying syndrome’ in a bid to secure victory in harmonised elections expected this year.

“Zanu (PF) is taking people for granted; they continue treating them like chickens,” Leonard Dube said this week. “It’s sad that Mugabe’s party is taking advantage of drought in Matabeleland South to push their agenda. Whenever there is an impending election they are seen countrywide handing out food stuffs to desperate citizens. This system must stop and we must fight it with all means possible. It’s good if those donations are given to people frequently than being used as a political tool.”

He urged villagers not to be manipulated through food, saying “This will only prolong your woes as you will vote the party which has crippled the country over the past 33 years. We need to unite and chase away these people taking advantage of you,” he said.

Last month village heads in this area expressed fear that Zanu (PF) supporters would manipulate the relief maize distribution exercise to buy votes from hungry voters at the next election.
