The partnership will provide portable desks, known as Tutudesks, for distribution to underprivileged schools in the country. “As ZYDF, we are glad to have partnered with the Desmond Tutu Foundation. The partnership will see us receive the equipment for about 50 schools in remote parts of the country,” said James Bayanai, the ZYDF founder and director.
The Desmond Tutu Foundation, a brainchild of the Nobel Peace prize laureate, provides portable school desks to children in Sub Saharan Africa. Such challenges have been blamed for poor academic performance.
The foundation’s Tutudesk Campaign aims to provide 20 million desks to 20 million children by 2015. To date, more than 1 million desks have been distributed.
