Zanu Ndonga sets conference date

Zanu Ndonga has announced June 22 as the date for their special conference to decide on the party’s coalition partner for the next elections.

The conference will be held in Chipinge.

The party’s President, Gondayi Vutuza, told The Zimbabwean that everything was in place for the event. The issue of indiscipline will be on the agenda after Vutuza clashed with the party’s National Chairperson, Reketayi Semwayo, over the latter’s disregard of the Constitutional Court ruling.

Semwayo was part of a grand coalition consisting of the two MDC formations, ZAPU and Mavambo/Kusile/Dawn, that expressed serious reservations with the recent ruling which they said would push the country into a sham election.

This did not go down well with Vutuza who said Semwayo had acted in his individual capacity and against the party’s principles. Vutuza said the party’s initial agreement was that they would work according to the Constitutional Court ruling.

However, Semwayo dismissed Vutuza’s leadership, arguing he was a self-proclaimed President not recognised by the party’s structures.

Vutuza said the conference would seek to deal with the issue of individualism that had caused discord within his party. He did not, however, disclose which party was at the top of their priority list as a coalition partner for the next elections.

He said his party was expecting about 100 delegates at the conference.
