Mpofu who is the Minister of Mines and Mining Development is the Zanu (PF) candidate for the constituency.

Some of the injured supporters blasted Mpofu for dumping the supporters following the accident.

“Nobody including Mpofu and senior Zanu (PF) officials have bothered to come here and give moral and financial support to the injured. Some of us have been given prescriptions to buy drugs at private pharmacies but we do not have the money. We do not have even bus fee to go back to our base,” said one of the supporters who suffered minor injuries.
