Alleged MDC-T in-fighting?

EDITOR -
In what could be a desperate attempt to cause divisions in the Tsvangirai-led MDC, officials from the smaller MDC might have adopted the Zanu (PF) division strategy.

Officials from the party are circulating what they call results of a survey carried out by the Tsvangirai-led MDC which predicts victory for the Professor Ncube-led MDC in the provinces of Bulawayo, Masvingo, Matebeleland North, Matebeleland South and Midlands.

They further claim that Tsvangirai was so angry with the results that he boycotted an internal meeting which was supposed to discuss the results. Calling themselves friends of Tendai Biti, they seem to want create factions within the Tsvangirai-led MDC.

The only explanation could be that they were surprised by the attendance at rallies and meetings held by Morgan Tsvangirai in Matebeleland North over the weekend, and realised that what they thought was their stronghold, had equal support for the Tsvangirai-led MDC. Such a smear campaignat a time when parties are supposed to be discussing the possibility of a coalition speaks volumes, and confirms Professor Ncube’s position that their party is not interested in a coalition with any other party.

Meanwhile, Bulisani Ncube, a member of Professor Ncube’s campaign team who accompanied him on his rallies and meetings in Matebeleland North, is confident the Professor Ncube-led MDC will win in Matebeleland. It would appear she is aware, probably from internal surveys, that her party will not make it in Bulawayo and Midlands provinces. Bulisani’s prediction tallies with Professor Ncube’s own prediction that he does not have what it takes to win an election, and hopes to win enough votes to spoil the chances of the elections producing an outright winner.

One can only conclude that this is the Professor Ncube-led MDC’s game plan and the present smear campaign is meant to avoid a Tsvangirai-led MDC majority in Matebeleland, given that the Tsvangirai-led MDC proved it has the capacity to wrestle Matebeleland North from the Professor Ncube-led MDC.

What Zimbabweans want in this election is a clear defeat for Mugabe. They want an outright winner, not another GNU. It is therefore up to those Zimbabwean voters who want to see Mugabe out – whether they belong to the MDC-T, MDC-N, MDC 99, Mavambo, Zanu Ndonga or Zanu (PF), to vote for a candidate who has confidence his party can carry the day against Mugabe.

To the Professor Ncube-led MDC the message is very clear – the malicious document that you are circulating is either your own propaganda tool meant to hoodwink Zimbabweans, or you have authenticated a document authored by the CIO to scuttle the prospects of a united front against Mugabe. – Benajmin Chitate, New Zealand
