I believe that we as a church often lack discernment and are like watchmen who have gone to sleep. I have been praying for the Lord to really stir up His church at this time. I personally have a deep peace in my heart, because I know the Lord is in control, but still we need to be ever watchful and praying.
There is utter desperation and chaos in the ranks of our long standing political party. Their fear is palpable. They have very little space left to manoeuvre and we all know how dangerous a cornered and wounded wild animal is. The top man is very sick. The lives of some key opposition men and women are at risk; even those outside the country. There is a serious split even in the ranks of the armed forces. There have been some very questionable ‘accidents. And the rigging is in full force. As usual!
My first prayer for the nation is that the Lord Jesus Christ will be central, supreme and utterly pre-eminent in all things. This is a nation that claims to be 80% Christian. My prayer is for a deep unveiling of Christ as our life in greater measure in each person’s heart; that the church will have a revelation of their risen and resurrected Lord as never before. Many of our politicians also declare the name of Christ Jesus but where is the reality? Every man or woman who stands behind a pulpit, or leads a study or prayer group needs this much deeper revelation.
Another on- going prayer is that there will be a brokeness in the heart of the church and in the nation. A broken and contrite heart the Lord will not despise and we are a nation of sinners. We need the gift of repentance.
On another level I have long since prayed that our long-standing political party that has become a false idol and false altar and been long held up as the saviour of Zimbabwe be pulled down and broken but that out of that, in His mercy, the Lord will save many souls. I have also prayed that all the dark deeds done in darkness will be brought out into the light. It seems that this is happening. Stunningly so! Let us pray for divine protection for this person (or persons).
Also I have stood against the spirit of fear that has so long held the people of this nation in bondage; that the fear of man will be crushed and that only the holy fear of God will remain.
This fear and the long struggle for change and the years of oppression and suffocating suppression and the many disappointments of stolen elections have brought so much despair and loss of hope and apathy. I have prayed for a revelation of their hope being in Christ. And in Him alone! May His Spirit encourage those who feel weighed down at this time.
Some of us have prayed for the Lord to raise up a man after His own heart to lead this nation. Our opposition parties also desperately need wisdom; God’s wisdom. This is something so many of our leaders desperately lack. They can’t even form a proper coalition as everyone wants the top positions and recognition. Selfish ambition! They all go to church? Our prayer is all the glory will go to God and not to any man.
Early this morning as I prayed and pondered on the things of God’s kingdom and what is taking place in Zim He gave me this comforting scripture for this nation, “My mercies are new every morning, ‘ (Lam 3:23) There is hope. There is always hope because our hope is in Christ. – Nan, Harare
