Check your voter status

Dear Editor,

Thanks to technology, and the people behind the technology, many Zimbabweans are now able to check their voter status online.

However, some past voters usually take their status for granted, especially when they have not changed addresses after the last election, and will assume that they will automatically be able to vote in the constituency they voted in the last election. I got a bit surprised myself when I checked my status on the www.myzimvote.com website, as I found my name registered in ward 7 in Mount Pleasant . Obviously there were some constituency boundary changes as a result of the 2005 delimitation exercise which increased the number of constituencies, but I doubt if that resulted in Harare Central Prison, which was my place of residence, moving to Mount Pleasant ward.

This could be a strategy by Zanu PF, using Israeli company, Nikuv International Projects to move people away from their registered constituencies so that come voting day, they will fail to find their names in what they thought were their constituencies and fail to vote. As speculated by earlier media reports, Nikuv could have been supplied a Zanu PF membership register and will not move names appearing on the Zanu PF register, ensuring that only those people who do not have Zanu PF connections are moved, hence disfranchised, maximising Zanu PF's chances of winning.

I therefore reiterate efforts by all progressive forces who are encouraging Zimbabweans to check on www.myzimvote.com to ensure that are registered in the appropriate constituencies, and try to correct the situation before elections; or if the situation cannot be corrected, make an attempt to vote in the constituency in which they are registered.

Every vote must count towards Zanu PF and Mugabe's demise this year. Vote wisely, make your vote count in removing Mugabe and Zanu PF.
