Zimbabwe’s securocrats are on record claiming that no party other than Zanu (PF) is fit to rule the country, in direct contravention of the constitution which prohibits them from conducting their duties in a partisan manner.
In an interview with The Zimbabwean, Dabengwa said that the conduct of the service chiefs goes against the ideals of the country’s liberation struggle.
“I think these guys should stop dictating to the people of Zimbabwe. Those of us who made a contribution towards the liberation of the country do not think that we did what we did for any particular party to rule Zimbabwe,” said Dabengwa.
He, however, said that in as much as the service chiefs might want to declare their allegiance to Zanu (PF), they will not be able to stand in the way of change.
“The people of Zimbabwe are tired and this time around, I don’t think that they are going to fold their arms. It is clear that the people want change and their will is going to prevail despite the utterances from the service chiefs,” said Dabengwa.
Dabengwa took a swipe at the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association members whom he said were self-imposed ex-fighters who never took an active role in the liberation of the county.
ZNLWVA Chairman, Jabulani Sibanda, is on record as well saying war veterans will block MDC-T President, Morgan Tsvangirai, from assuming power even if he wins in elections.
Dabengwa said the war veterans would eventually be forced to eat humble pie.
“I do not even want to take those people seriously because they were never involved in the war. The war veterans association comprises of people who should not actually be called war veterans because most of them were just recruits who never went on to take an active role in the liberation of this country.
“When you talk about war veterans, you talk about people who were in the battlefield and not recruits,” said Dabengwa.
He expressed fears that irregularities concerning the voters’ roll raise fears of a ploy to rig the elections adding that Zanu (PF’s) silence over the issue was suspicious.
“One would expect that all the parties would really be concerned unless they are involved in the rigging process. The duplication of names in the voters’ roll is obviously a pointer to someone trying to rig the elections and this is what we have been complaining about,” said Dabengwa.
Dabengwa said chances of free and fair elections were slim due to inconsistencies regarding the voters’ roll.
“The chances of free and fair elections are really slim. The only problem was that ZEC was not fully in charge on the issue of the voters’ roll. Any mistakes that were done were done by the Registrar General’s Department and ZEC seemed not to be aware of what was going on,” said Dabengwa.

In ZAPU we were told that war was not fought by guns alone. That is why there were teachers, nurses, doctors, carpenters etc. You people cost us a lot by refusing us compansation on grounds that we were not trained. I will never vote for you.
