Diamond exposé due soon

The investigation into the involvement of Zanu (PF) top officials in diamond money extortion is
still underway and details will be made available soon, according to Detective Assistant Inspector in the CID Minerals Unit, Mathias Muremeri.

“Our investigating team was instructed to go to Mutare
to probe allegations of corrupt activities involving Manicaland
provincial Zanu (PF) party members who had received funds from the
diamond mining companies. The money was meant for youth projects but it did not
reach the intended destination,”
said Muremeri. “A report will be produced soon.”

Highly placed sources revealed to The Zimbabwean last week that
investigations into the matter were almost complete and a police
docket would be opened soon.

Zanu (PF) Manicaland Youth Chairman, Tawanda Mukodza, has already been
ousted from the party following these allegations.
Mukodza’s dismissal also sucked in the former Zanu (PF) Provincial Chairman,
Mike Madiro, and three other provincial executive members who are
currently under investigation for extorting money under the pretext that the funds would be used
for development projects.

The source said the investigations were set to expose cabinet
ministers, senior CIO officials, army and Zanu (PF) senior members.
According to the party’s national Secretary for Administration Didymus Mutasa, the party will be casting a wide net as there is a
possibility a syndicate was established involving very senior members of
the party and senior security officials.

“Youth members felt there were underhand
activities in Chiadzwa which needed
investigating. This is when it emerged that we needed to cast
our net wider and investigate all those named in the initial report,” said Mutasa.

“I have received a petition from concerned party members
who were implicating very big names from Zanu (PF) who are illegally
dealing in diamonds from Chiadzwa. This is going to expose some very
senior party officials who have been extorting money from diamond
mining companies and allegedly converting the money for their own
use.”
