GNU must honour agreements: Mabwe

Civil society should continue to put pressure on inclusive government partners to honor promises made to level the political playing field, says non-governmental organisation spokesperson, Michael Mabwe.

He added said CSOs should not lose hope but continue to demand the implementation of things agreed in the GPA.

Mabwe said that in spite of the early July 31 election date, political parties should participate in the plebiscite, if they want to remain relevant.

“If MDC-T wants to remain relevant, it has to go to elections without reforms while sending a signal to both SADC and AU that they were short-changed by their insincere GNU partners,” Mabhwe told The Zimbabwean.

Crisis in Zimbabwe Regional Advocacy and Information Coordinator, Joy Mabenge, said in a recent statement that: “If defaulters of the GPA manage to make Zimbabwe go to polls without reforms, the outcome may not be credible but disputable”.

The Youth Agenda Trust views the Constitutional Court ruling as being masked by a sinister political agenda that is denying people opportunity for a credible free and fair election. The Trust said upholding the July 31 election date confirmed widely held beliefs that the country’s judiciary was not independent.

Meanwhile, CSOs recently launched an election road show, Feya Feya campaign.

The campaign encourages citizens to participate in the electoral process through registering to vote and raising awareness around the forthcoming elections.
