Gorowa sets Nations Cup target

Newly-appointed Zimbabwe national soccer team coach, Ian Gorowa, has set the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations finals to be held in Libya as his target and has challenged the Zimbabwe Football Association to fire him should he fail to achieve that goal.

The former Black Rhinos and Dynamos striker said every coach is judged by results adding that if he does not bring positive results then he does not deserve to be in the job and should be asked to leave.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach who has also had coaching stints at Ajax Cape Town and Moroka Swallows in South Africa said he has been pained by Zimbabwe’s failure to make it to the Nations Cup finals in the past few years pledging that he will do his best to make sure that Zimbabweans fans are happy this time around.

That is the reason why he says he admires former Warriors coaches Sunday Chidzambwa and Charles Mhlauri. The two are the only coaches to take the Warriors to the Nations Cup finals with Chidzambwa achieving that feat in 2004 while Mhaluri made it long before the qualifying campaign was over with two games to spare in 2006.

Zimbabwe has failed to make the continental rendezvous in the past editions in 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2013 while at the same time small footballing nations like Namibia and Botswana were qualifying.
