The company, which is also in charge of the construction of computerised toll plazas along the Plumtree-Bulawayo–Harare –Mutare highway, financed the repair of dilapidated classroom blocks, acquired textbooks and repainting the classrooms and teachers’ houses.
Managing Director Themba Mosai said the company, in keeping with its tradition of becoming part of the community in which it operates, identified Mfanyana Primary School as the most deserving case to assist.
“It is our hope that the recipients of this gift and the community at large will see us as part of them,” said Mosai. Mfanyana head teacher, Mpho Ndonda, said the gesture would go a long way in improving learning standards at the school.
“Our school has been facing numerous challenges, including text book shortages which had resulted low pass rate. Our pupils have a been sitting on top of stones and logs during learning because we did not have furniture,” said Ndondo.
The company sets aside R40 million annually for community development through educational programme and training. “Creating better learning conditions for pupils is important for us,” said Mosai.
