Kasukuwere made the statement last week while officiating at the handover ceremony of equipment to the Manicaland Youth Employment and Rural Development Programme.
“There are some banks that are misbehaving and are unsupportive of our youth programmes. I want to warn them that they should start funding the youth programmes or else they should ship out.”
He added: “We cannot remain as beggars yet we have youths who have got the brains and the potential to turn around the economy. The youth should benefit from the indigenisation programme to upgrade their lifestyles.”
Kasukuwere named Barclays and Standard Chartered banks as the chief culprits.
“These banks should comply with our calls, otherwise we will get rid of them,” he said.
Kasukuwere has clashed over his stance with Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor Gideon Gono who has said he was opposed to localising foreign banks.
The law requires foreign-owned firms to hand over 51 percent of their shareholding to indigenous Zimbabweans.
