In a statement read to journalists at a Press Conference held this afternoon at the Crown Plaza in Harare, MDK leader, Simba Makoni, said the three parties got into the coalition for change in order to solve problems affecting Zimbabwe.
The coalition was described as a reflection of the commitment by the parties towards improving the welfare of Zimbabweans across the political divide.
Following the agreement, the three parties will support the candidature of MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai at the coming presidential poll.
The parties agreed to rally behind a single agreed candidate fielded per constituency, for the House of Assembly and the ward level local authority race respectively.
“Since the coalition is bound to win the coming election, it will form a genuine people driven coalition government, unlike the current forced GNU,” read part of the statement.
Among other things, the government expects to bring about national revival, good governance which respects the rule of law, respect to constitutionalism and foster genuine national healing.
An environment conducive for economic revival will be created, as well as genuine empowerment for all, ‘not the prevailing situation whereby the few remaining industries are grabbed for the benefit of a few connected to Zanu (PF)’.
Investment will be promoted partly through modernisation of the country’s essential infrastructure.
Social infrastructure will be developed and the government turned into a respected institution not the current feared one.
Welfare of vulnerable members of the community will be catered for by government as they would also benefit together with their communities, from local resources through the constitutionalised devolution of power.
Makoni said the new government will repair broken foreign relations with regional and international family of countries.
“The government which will have no more than 25 cabinet ministers including the presidency, would bring real freedoms and justice for all Zimbabweans,” said Makoni.
The coalition will keep its doors open for like-minded organisations willing to join.
Speaking at the media briefing, Tsvangirai said the coalition will win coming elections since people were determined to surmount all odds given the uneven playing field.
“Zimbabweans have realised that the fight against dictatorship and tyrannical rule through democratic means, is possible but not an easy one,” said Tsvangirai.
