Mtizwa has not had a rosy relationship with the former South African champions, since joining them from Caps United more than two seasons ago and now looks like he will never make it in their camp.
His first season dogged by a long injury, he did not make the cut for the first team under former coach, Johan Neeskens even when he returned late in the 2011/12 season.
“Sundowns have released me. They told me they have too many foreign players at the moment and I am now training on my own,” said the star, who had a very fruitful sojourn on loan at cross-town rivals, Pretoria University.
Mtizwa expressed disappointment at the way the club had treated him, after they called him back to honour the remaining year left on his contract.
“They should have at least let me continue with Pretoria University, where I enjoyed my stay last season and would have still made the cut, but now I will have to start all over again.
“I remain hopeful of finding another PSL club to sign me before the new season, which begins next week, although time is no longer on my side. I am even considering going back to the AmaTuks, with whom I had a good time last season, hoping that they have also not been frustrated by the recent turn of events regarding me being called back to Sundowns.”
The defensive midfielder said he would also like to try his luck in Europe should there be any teams interested in his services..
Sundowns also recently parted ways with another Zimbabwean international, defender Method Mwanjali, who is now said to be at newly-promoted Mpumalanga Black Aces.
