Myzimvote surprise

I was surprised when I checked my status on the www.myzimvote.com website, as I found my name registered in ward 7 in Mount Pleasant .

Obviously there were some constituency boundary changes as a result of the 2005 delimitation exercise, which increased the number of constituencies, but I doubt if that resulted in Harare Central Prison, which was my place of residence, moving to Mount Pleasant ward.

This could be a strategy by Zanu (PF) using Israeli company Nikuv International Projects to move people away from their registered constituencies so that come voting day, they will fail to find their names in what they thought were their constituencies and therefore fail to vote. As speculated by earlier media reports, Nikuv could have been given a Zanu (PF) membership register and only move – and therefore disenfranchise – the names of those not on the register.

I encourage all Zimbabweans to check on www.myzimvote.com to ensure that they are registered in the correct constituencies, and try to correct the situation before elections.

If the situation cannot be corrected, they should make an attempt to vote in the constituency in which they are registered.
