According to the presidential advisor, Edson Macuacua, “in order to open dialogue with Renamo, President Guebuza is willing to hold a meeting with its leader next week in Maputo”.
He added that the President has mandated a government delegation, headed by Agriculture Minister Jose Pacheco, to create the conditions for this top level meeting. The agenda will be discussed by the government and Renamo at talks on Monday.
Edson Macuacua also announced that the government will present to Monday’s meeting a ‘prior question’ about the demilitarisation of Renamo.
This was the first statement by Edson Macuacua since he was appointed as the presidential advisor and spokesperson two weeks ago.
Edson Macuacua is a former Frelimo Central Committee Secretary for Mobilisation and Propaganda and party spokesperson.
