Slow pace irks Mbare voters

People who are trying to vote at Chishawasha polling stations in Mbare have expressed disappointment at the slow pace the queues are moving.

“I came here at 8am and the queue is very slow. The polling agents or presiding officers are not communicating with us. With the way things are unfolding here I may cast my vote at 1pm,” said Regius Magada.

Another prospective voter identified as Viola said though there are five polling stations at one place with three booths each the queues are not moving.

“I wonder what could be the problem. Maybe people’s names are hard to search in the voters roll,” she said.

Presiding Officer of Ward 4 polling station Chishawasha ‘D’, Adon Chivandire said high turnout is causing the slow pace.

“The queues are very long since people have come at the same time. We still have the whole day to accommodate them,” said Chivandire.

Chivandire said though there are some people being turned away most did not register.

“I think we are having many people who did not register just coming to try their luck to vote and we are turning them away,” he said.
