Special voting kicks off at 1615 hours in Kuwadzana

The special voting process kicked off late in Kuwadzana, Harare, after the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission failed to provide ballot papers in time.

The Zimbabwean visited the area at around 1600 hours and police officers were milling outside the Kuwadzana Community hall where they are set to cast their votes.

Officials from ZEC only arrived with 31 ballot papers at around 1615 hours.

A polling officer who spoke to The Zimbabwean said they had contacted ZEC officials who had told them that they were still sorting out the logistics for the voting process.

"We have been seated here since morning but there is no progress at all. We opened at 7am ut up to now, there are no ballot papers and people have not yet cast their votes," said the polling officer.

Addressing polling agents after the arrival of the 31 ballot papers, the election officer for Kuwadzana constituency, identified as Muzofa gave an assurance that all will be sorted out.

"There are some slight problems but I can assure you that all will be sorted out. For the mean time, let us deal with the 31 and very soon, other ballot papers will be arriving," said Muzofa.

Frustration was evident among the police officers who were milling around at Kuwadzana 2 shopping centre.

A disgruntled police officer who spoke to The Zimbabwean said: "We are not even sure whether we will be able to cast our votes by the end of the day.

We have been waiting since morning and there is no communication from the officials as to what exactly is going on," said the police officer.
