Samantha was born in Bulawayo in 1990 – one of a family of 12 children. She is Managing Director of the renewable energy company TECOSA and recently launched a model management and grooming agency called Models BEYOND.
CM: How would you respond to the statement: “pageants exploit women”?
ST: I would say “not really,” as I feel this is a big opportunity to escalate oneself through beauty, using the honour and respect that you become acquainted with to open doors for a very bright future.
As Africans, there are certain adaptations that have taken time to be in sync with our culture, but I think we are getting there and, with a healthy economy, more and more of the business community are coming forward in support of the industry.
CM: How do you think women should be empowered?
ST: Through education and training programs. I feel that “self-sustainability” is a powerful tool in the sense that everybody able to sustain themselves will never suffer or go without. I see a time when the level of appreciation of models will rise and, as bigger budgets are allocated to the industry, the onus will be on us as the “industry leaders” to not only nurture it but to also grow together with it and surpass world standards.
