Waller's first test beckons

Zimbabwe's new cricket coach, Andy Waller, is excited with the decision by India to tour Zimbabwe this month as it will give him the opportunity to assess the performance of his charges for the first time under his tutelage.

"It is great for the boys to have a game with such a big side this month. It will help us see where we are and how we can move forward in rebuilding the team as one of the powerhouses," he said.

India will tour Zimbabwe for a series of five one day international games starting on July 24 and ending on August 3. The Asian side will tour Africa after their tri-series in the West Indies that ends on July 11.

Harare Sports Club will be venue of the first three one-dayers while the last two will be played at Bulawayo's Queens Sports Club.

The Indian tour had been put on hold earlier last month with the Board of Cricket in India citing 'fatigue factor.'

It is likely that the tourists will select a young side for the tour; much to the expectations of their fans. A young and inexperienced side will use this tour well to gain exposure while the young Zimbabweans remain starved of a much needed heated challenge.

Waller is however not concerned.

"All we want is our boys to play more cricket. India A or their select side will still be good enough. So we are not worried whether they send a full strength side or not," he said.
