War vets leader seriously injured in suspect assassination attempt

Liberation War Veterans of Zimbabwe Association National Secretary General, Shadreck Makombe, has been involved in a serious road accident.

The incident happened along the Mkoba-City road at 5:45pm yesterday when his vehicle was hit head on by an unidentified car.

The outspoken former freedom fighter was on his way to a local hotel where he had called for a press conference to present evidence on how a senior Zanu (PF) official believed to lead a prominent faction in the party rigged primary elections for candidates on his side countrywide.

Eye witnesses said before Makombe was taken to hospital, he was bleeding profusely from the mouth and nose while it appeared is eyes had been broken his legs.

Speculation is that the accident was an assassination attempt from within Zanu (PF).

Recently, there have been reports of assassinations and attempted killings within the party that coincided with the holding of Zanu (PF) primaries.

Prominent among the victims is former Mines Minister and MP, Edward Chindori-Chininga.
