“Dande Showcase is all about highlighting Zimbabwe Roots music from a global perspective. We compose songs and play them based on all the known traditional Zimbabwean beat patterns and chord,” said lead singer Micho. The band features a Scottish bass guitarist and a Brazilian drummer, among other musicians. “We understand that we are all “vana vevhu”. What we don’t understand, we teach each other,” said Micho.
The band members are influenced by the likes of Ambuya Dyoko, Bhundu Boys, Jonah Sithole and Peter Tosh. Current Zimbabwean artists such as Linos Magaya, Kuda Matimba and Hope Masike are favourites with the band members.
Dande Showcase has so far had gigs in London, Hamilton, Kingston, and Toronto. In the coming months they will play in Alberta and Vancouver, before finishing the tour in Manitoba.
