Zimbabwe and Zambia are set to co- host the 20th session of the world tourism extravaganza from August 24 to 29 this year.

This is the first time ever that the event is being held in Southern Africa and the second time on African soil.

Dakar, Senegal, was the first African country to host the UNWTO General Assembly in 2005.

Last month, ZTA announced that the organisation was searching for a song to use as an effective platform to sell the Zimbabwean brand. as well as the national tourism brand payoff line: ‘Zimbabwe – A World of Wonders’.

Speaking at the awards ceremony at Rainbow Towers in Harare today, ZTA Chief Executive Officer, Karikoga Kaseke, said the country would use this platform to promote tourism in Zimbabwe and the Southern African region.

“This event presents to us the perfect opportunity for our destination brand endorsement. Our winning songs are going to be used as the vehicles to increase both the awareness of the 2013 UNWTO General Assembly as well as promote destination Zimbabwe,” said Kaseke.

Other artists who won prizes for coming up with theme songs that promote the Zimbabwean tourism destination in its totality were Rute Mbanga, Bob Nyabinde, Jennifer Muneni, Jairos Hamba Hamba of Baobab Studios and Tanga wekwa Sando, who walked away with prizes ranging between $5, 000 and $15, 000.
