Zimbabwean stars in SA

A number of Zimbabwean ace players have gone to South Africa to try their luck in the ABSA Premiership ahead of the new season.

Former Highlanders winger, Obadia Tarumbwa, and former Dynamos and FC Platinum goal-getter, Benjamin Marere, are trying out at Pretoria University.

Tarumbwa, currently playing in Kenya, said he felt good.

“I have been here for a few days and remain hopeful that everything will go according to my plans. AmaTuks have world-class training facilities and being part of them, even for these few days, has really motivated me. Everyone in the team has also been supportive.”

The national team striker played for FC Paralimni in Cyprus before his successful half-year stint in the Kenyan league. Marere returned to the same club after he was asked for a second trial by their coach, Steve Barker.

“I would love to play in SA as their standard of football is wonderful. I had a great season back home last season and my football really improved. The standard in the SA league is very good and I hope Pretoria University will sign me.”
